Akira is just one of those films that I hope the new school of anime fans appreciates. By the time ghost in the shell came out they were already compositing 3d/cgi into the animation. Akira however, is completely (painstakingly) hand drawn. That means everything. Effects, perfect machine drawing, organics all hand drawn and animated. This feat will not be accomplished again. For good reason I suppose — it is cheaper and faster and doesn’t produce all that paper and celluloid waste to do it on the computer.
Anyway, go appreciate Akira at the Art of Akira Exhibit
