This guy isn’t actually on the Simpsons staff, but he doesn know how to draw in that style. All of the gentlemen depicted here are heroes of mine in one way or another. Although ALF is definitely missing — that guy taught me everything.

Ben Qwek is a really killer illustrator from Singapore. He captures something about the current state of illustration and design in his art. In some way I feel he very much represents the current / contemporary state of art and design the way that Patrick Nagel did in the 80′s. You remember that shit don’t you? Here’s a Nagel:

I make it sound like being contemporary is a bad thing, sorry. No it’s totally cool. It’s totally solid and of the times. Maybe not pushing the envelope or getting to experimental but that’s not what it is meant to do. It’s kinda’ just hip and now and cool.

It’s this wonderful take, to me, on construction in general. Something about the idea of the gothic period and the beginning of very elaborate construction of architecture resulting from newly discovered methods of buttressing things. I fucking love buttressing. It is hot.
This set of construction vehicles I think are a good homage to just the concept of construction in general. To see the vehiles themselves as a beautiful part of the construction process — not just the final building — is a hats off to laymen who usually are not part of the picture. After the blood and sweat is put into the building by workers, it’s the magistrates that hop in front of the camera for the shoot.
Baby I’ll buttress you ALL night long.
sorry. creepy
